K Is For Kachina Detail From Childhood Quilt Painting
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Even though I had not yet seen a Hopi kachina dancer at the time I made this drawing (at around age 8 or 9), listening to Dad's stories of his experiences in the Hopi village with his frined the Old Weaver, must have inspired me. I had also seen the kachina dolls his friends had made and given to him and Mom over the years, but this drawing doesn't resemble them in particular. I loved hearing Dad's tales of the People of Peace and the beauty and drama of their traditional way of life on the beautiful, harsh mesas of the American Southwest.
