Description
The first town we visited after leaving Dublin was Kilkenny. It’s Irish name, Cill Chainnigh, means Church of Cainnech which portrays its origins. For the town was established as an ecclesiastical settlement in the sixth century. The history even predates that with artifacts dating from the Mesolithic and Bronze Age periods having been found in the area.
Today Kilkenny is a bustling tourist destination. Besides a castle, two cathedrals, a cathedral turned Medieval museum and the beautiful River Nore, High Street is lined with upscale shops. And you will not be at a loss for good food.
