Description
In Hawai'i we have a lot of feral chickens. If you live here, they are part of the landscape - you will find them scratching in the forest, wandering yards, looking for handouts in parking lots. The Polynesian voyagers brought Asian red jungle fowl birds with them when they first inhabited the Islands. Captain Cook had chickens on board his boat when he arrived in Hawai'i and some ended up on the Islands, breeding with the fowl brought by the ancient Hawaiians.
On Kauai there is, shall we say, an unusual abundance of these feral fowl, everywhere. In 1992 Hurricane Iniki destroyed a chicken farm, dispersing their birds to the wild. There are chickens everywhere and while, we who live in Hawai'i are not bothered by their morning greetings to the light, some tourists are not amused. Some hotel reservations come warning of the birds reveille to prepare their guests for this avian surprise.
One thing that is apparent of our feral chickens, is that they are extraordinarily beautiful, sporting amazing patterns and iridescent coloration to their plumage.

Love this! I cannot imagine going to Hawaii and complaining about being woken up by a rooster. Fantastic image, love the composition! l/f

Thank you April. It is amusing to me too that they complain. Really amusing when you think that so many people live in urban areas crazy full of annoying noise :)/
