We had spent the morning at a pretty high level having a brief tour & an introduction to the Vatican’s Latin translation services by Msgr Daniel Gallagher at the Apostolic Palace. This was cool and included unexpected views from an amazing balcony. Escorted down behind and through security to the south side of St. Peter’s we then explored the depths of the Vatican on the Scavi tour under St. Peter’s Basilica. Importantly, the next stop was lunch at La Pilotta. It seemed that we would walk blocks that felt like miles to reach one of these always delightful respites. La Pilotta was just up from the corner along Via di Porta Cavalleggeri a little more than a block. It was dark and quiet inside even though we eleven were the only customers and the door was wide open to the street.
