Description
This lovely perennial grows in my Ohio garden under a tall River Birch. It actually has reseeded in a couple of new spots and so I am able to enjoy it in several new places without having to buy more plants; always a bonus! In late spring and early summer, nearly inconspicuous chartreuse (yellow-green) blooms rise gently over the soft green leaves, creating a really lovely compliment of greens!
Lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis or Alchemilla vulgaris) has soft gray-green foliage which is semi-round with scalloped-shaped leaves.
This low-growing ground cover (6-12" tall) is a native of Turkey and Carpathian Mountain.
The following description comes from the website:
https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/ladys-mantle/grow-ladys-mantle.htm
"The plant’s common name is said to have likely come from an ancient legend of it being used to adorn the Virgin Mary, as her cloak was thought to resemble its scalloped leaves. Once a popular medicinal herb, the root and leaves of lady’s mantle plant were both harvested in midsummer and used as poultices for bruises and wound healing. Its tea was used for easing . . . pain."
I played with this image and ended up with four versions I liked a lot. You can see all four images in my Series Collection.
I so appreciate your taking time to look through my work on FAA and I hope you enjoy what you have seen and will visit again.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
