This particular scene is from a place very near my father’s house and the memorial bench for his late wife. He himself has taken many similar photographs of this beautiful spot. I love this piece. Having it printed on the wood gave this piece depth and character, like a painting. A little clarity was obscured by the wood grain but it’s beautiful.

I have always loved mermaids and artist Skoosh’s friendship series was one I immediately fell in love with. Treated myself to one on wood and I absolutely love it. The wood is substantial and works wonderfully with the colors on the print. Eventually it will go up on the wall of my craft room/office but for now it’s right next to my laptop where i can see it as I get through my day. Can’t wait for the rest of the series to be available.

Artist's Description

Two lancets with their cases. The smaller lancet (left) dates from around 1790 and the larger (right), from around 1830. Both lancets are English and made from steel (blade) and tortoiseshell (handle). Their cases are made from leather. Lancets are double edged surgical blades with a pointed end. These instruments were used to open patient's veins for 'bloodletting'. This was a common practice in medicine until the late nineteenth century and was believed to 'treat' a range of ailments by removing surplus bodily 'humours' (fluids within the body).

About Science Photo Library

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
