Mary created "Land of Plenty" in 1983. She was the wife of a veteran and a very patriotic American citizen. She combined watercolors with ink to portray the melting pot of America through the ages. She died September 2, 2010, but her art lives on!
Mary was born March 7, 1922. She started painting at 41 years old in 1963. By concentrating on her painting technique, she found that creating visions of beauty, worked better than therapy, so she dove full force utilizing that talent. By completing art classes, she perfected her skills and became a teacher of fine art. She taught art at SUNY Farmingdale College in New York. She then opened a gallery, the “Royal Gallery of Art”, in Farmingdale, New York, and continued teaching as well as selling her art work. In the early 1970's she was elected president of the Suburban Art League in Woodbury, NY. She was recognized and has received numerous awards from the league for her gorgeous art work. Amazing art!

I just saw this painting in the "flags" contest I am hosting, and I was simply overhelmed: such an immense work of art and love! So I came here to look at other works from Mary, and was very shocked to read about her passing away. It made me so immensely sad, although I just had discovered her through this painting... we are so lucky that she can live on through her art. Thank you so much to keep her among us publishing her work...
Mary Spyridon Thompson replied:
Thank you so very much for all your kind words! She is a radiant angel that stays with us for eternity! Over time, I will post more of her work; she left about 700 pieces of work. More to come, Miki. Thanks again! :)
