This beautiful watercolor of Frederick Douglas made the perfect shirt for my five-year-old to celebrate Black History month at school. Although his preschool didn’t have anything special planned, we wanted to celebrate somehow. This gorgeous shirt was the perfect way to show our appreciation and admiration of an outstanding Black American.

This little lantern was buried in the snow until we shoveled it out!
I was born in Louisiana, and spent my early childhood moving from state to state until settling in New Jersey in third grade. My leanings toward art were placed on the back burner while I focused on high school, college, and making a living. Then, my artistic impulses came out--I painted a tropical island paradise in the garage as a consolation for rained out picnics. Hence, at the advanced age of 48, I began my art training. Yes, the little lantern was almost covered before we started shoveling. We don't normally get snow that high here! We had a few feet that day.
