Description
Laocoon was an oracle/prophet in the city of Troy. He warned everyone not to accept the Trojan Horse, interpreted as a gift in honor of Poseidon god of the sea, because of deceptive connotations. Rather than insult the gods, they decided it would go in their temple, and they moved it toward the city gates as Laocoon protested. In frustration he hurled his spear at the wooden statue. Moments later it was reported that Laocoon's two sons were killed by snakes from the sea. The Trojans knew then that the horse was sacred. The rest is history.
