Description
This agave has produced a stalk over 12 feet ( 4 meters ) high in just a couple of weeks. The stalk can grow up to a foot in 2 days. After reaching its optimal height it produces branches that produce flowers called rosettes.Flowering is the last act this agave does and then dies. They are often called century plants as it sometimes takes a long time to flower. The dead plant can stand for a few years before a strong wind takes it down. There are over 200 species of agave which are considered succulents. Their sap is called aguamiel in Spanish which means honey water. The blue agave produces a wonderful libation called Tequila. In Mexico we often buy local micro brews that make super smooth sipping tequila.
This is one of three that have grown in my front yard in Vail, Arizona
