Last Hurrah by Maggie Terlecki.
I like peonies and they don't last long especially with our very warm temperatures lately. A little over a day, and with the heat, they dropped their petals all over the table. I scooped them up and before throwing them away, had found that the little buds on them had opened up and these tiny little jewels, like infant children, grabbed my attention. I placed them in a drinking glass and they gave their last hurrah: a reminder of their exuberant and incredibly luscious parent... sexy and a bit wild. These, much more innocent still made me smile. :-) Maggie
