Description
Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) leaping between trees. This monkey takes it name from the males' greatly-enlarged noses, which begin to enlarge after they reach maturity. The nose serves to add resonance to the monkeys' calls, and it straightens out as they emit a loud honk". The females' noses are more modest. Proboscis monkeys inhabit the damp jungles of Borneo, living in groups of around 20 individuals. They feed mainly on leaves and may reach 80 centimetres in length when fully grown. Photographed on the Kinabatangan River, Malaysia."
