The West Peer (Westerstaketsel) in Oostende forms part of the harbour mouth and has a long history as place to walk and enjoy the fresh sea air. In recent years the harbour area of Oostende has been transformed following a massive redevelopment programme. The head of the West Peer is now closed to the public because of safety concerns. I have fond memories of hours spent on the peer and in the Brasserie with its roof terrace, now sadly closed. Itís a place with memories where people from Oostende would gather and wave at the passengers on the ferries when there was still a viable ferry route between Oostende and Dover.
