I gathered this specimen from the edge of a pasture adjacent to my backyard. I gently side lit the single, two-section stem of showy yellow rattlebox wildflower (Crotalaria Spectabilis) and photographed it against a muted and complementary colored dark brown background. In spite of being delicately beautiful, rattlebox is considered a toxic weed that may be harmful to horses. Where I live, in North Central Florida, it grows freely along our roads, adding a graceful (albeit potentially toxic) touch to the everyday tableau.

Artist Statement I have always loved intense color and strong light! It probably has something to do with growing up in mid-century Miami, a wonderland of saturated pastel colors from the neon lights that were everywhere in those days. I discovered photography fairly early and used my skills as a photographer to illustrate the many news stories and feature articles I wrote for newspapers and magazines over three decades. In recent years, I began experimenting with digital technology, changing my photo images in ways I never thought possible back in the days of 35mm film cameras.
