Description
The approx. 26 species of Copiapoa cactus are only found in coastal regions of Chile's Atacama Desert. This species is Copiapoa dealbata, endemic to the Llanos de Challe National Park near Huasco and nearby areas in Region III de Atacama. Many have a very limited range and are endangered. Rain very rarely falls in the area (on average every few years) so their main source of water comes from winter sea fogs that blanket the coast. When it does rain you may find some cacti in flower if you are lucky!
