About Blake Originals - Marjorie and Beverly
The artwork shown on this site is a combination of the late Marjorie Blake and her daughter Beverly Blake. Born in Los Angeles in 1920, Marjorie studied Fashion Design in the late 30’s at Otis Art Institute and worked for a while as a costumer at MGM studios as part of the costume design team during the making of Wizard of Oz. Later she became the first assistant that designer Oleg Cassini hired. Her early painting inspiration came from the French, Dutch and California impressionists but she later became a fan of Motherwell, Frankenthatler and Diebenkorn. That influence became apparent in her very large floral abstracts which became her best known work. During the 60’s she was contracted with Donald Art Company to print several...
