Featured on the Home Pages of Fine Art America Groups! This lone red tulip was the very first flower which burst out of the chilly ground and proclaimed that Spring had arrived in my garden! The chill of winter was still around, so I gave this flower a delicate stem, to show that in spite of its dazzling color and audacious early appearance, it still needed to have the protection of being brought indoors! This oil painting was done in what I call a reverse Chiaroscuro method, in a realistic style. I brought this beauty into my studio, where I painted it directly from life, since it was still too cold for me to sit outside and do a plein-air painting!
