This lone seagull at Spring Lake, NJ seems to be watching to see whether the surfer is going to catch one more wave, or come in for the evening. I started this painting by laying in temperature colors with the palette knife, and finished it with brushes.

I was born in Louisiana, and spent my early childhood moving from state to state until settling in New Jersey in third grade. My leanings toward art were placed on the back burner while I focused on high school, college, and making a living. Then, my artistic impulses came out--I painted a tropical island paradise in the garage as a consolation for rained out picnics. Hence, at the advanced age of 48, I began my art training. I continue to learn by doing, creating paintings from scenes that inspire me.
