"Loon Family" is an original fine art wildlife photograph by Sandra Huston.
This image was captured while kayaking Woodbury Pond in September 2006 when a float plane was preparing to land on the pond. This male was not happy and was warning the plane away. You can see both parents circling around to protect its chick. This plane made several passes before it landed. As we spoke softly to calm them down the loon family actually swam closer between my friend and my kayak for protection. You will also see this type of display when an eagle is flying overhead. The male loon will start the tremolo call to warn all the loons in the area that a predator is close by.
