Description
This tender mother-child animal portrait, "Love Me Tender", speaks of love and bonding. A female spider monkey cradles her baby lovingly and protectively while the juvenile peers out from under her arm with curiosity. The enfant was five months old when this photo was taken in the zoo jungle where they live.
The brown-headed spider monkey (Ateles fusciceps fusciceps) is a South American monkey native to the tropical forests of northwestern Ecuador. It is on the critically endangered list.

Fabulous portrait! t
Nikolyn McDonald replied:
Thanks so much, Marcia. I have loved watching this pair over the last couple of years - mom's so laid back - attentive but not hovering - and the kid is just full of it!

An amazing image, Nikolyn. You captured the mother and child at just the right moment, with the two faces looking directly at you! f/l

Nikolyn, what an amazing capture of these Spider monkeys. Everything about a mother's bond to her offspring emanates from the flow of their bodies together to the expressions on their faces. Very deserving of all awards and more. A definite fav for me.
