Description
On the lower part of Munising falls, you will find black rocks of all shapes , sizes and formations. These rocks make up the interesting scenery of the river. Here the water coming down from the falls, cascade over these black rocks, creating mini waterfalls themselves. I love conveying motion in a lot of my images. So, I opted to use a slow shutter speed to create a motion blur on the water. I find this look on waterfalls pleasing. It softens it up and brings a serene feeling to the viewer. One of the great things ( and, there are plenty ) about being in Michigan is, there are many upon many, waterfalls here. I found a site that says there are 324 Waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

There are tons more still yet to be discovered, named and of course photographed. Munising, Michigan.., (where this image was captured ) is known to be the " Waterfall " capital of the state. I have photographed almost all of them in this area of Alger County and, yes, they are numerous there. However, some of them although found, documented and named are now sitting on private property, so you need the owners permission to to view them. And, that is only the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are many upon many Waterfalls in the lower Peninsula, as well. There is a fantastic book by the Penrose family called
" A GUIDE TO 119 MICHIGAN WATERFALLS " That I have used for many Waterfalls I have visited. They show you a picture of it ( usually in black and white) and give you a little info. on the Falls and area and also, include step by step direction to get there. Great book to have along with you on your travels.
