Description
At Sunwapta Falls in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, there are actually two falls, an upper falls and a lower falls. The lower falls (seen here) is only a short walk farther after viewing the upper falls but they seem remote due to the smaller percentage of visitors who make the walk. The lower falls are not as high as the upper falls but the late summer flow from the Athabasca Glacier is still rushing and turbulent. Sunwapta is a Stoney (Assiniboine) word that means turbulent water. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho along with three provincial parks comprise a UNESCO World Heritage site.
