Description
Lumiere projector. Engraving of a man operating the first cinema projector or Cinematographe, invented by the Frenchmen Louis and Auguste Lumiere in 1895. The projector, which was also used as a camera and printer, was patented on 13 March 1895 and first demonstrated in Paris, France, on 22 March 1895. From 28 December 1895, the Lumiere brothers used their device to make the first regular presentations of projected film. The 30 minute long shows in the basement of the Grand Cafe in the Boulevard des Capuchines, Paris, were an immediate success. Within a few months, Lumiere projectors were being used around the world.
