Description
Canadian Lynx prodominatly have large feet
for running on top of the snow and abundance of padding
are to help protect them as they tend to
live in some extremely cold and snowy weather.
Canada Lynx have long black tufts of hair at
the tops of their ears serve to enhance
their already phenomenal hearing.
The Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis)
The Canada lynx's diet is almost
exclusive to and dependent on snowshoe
hares and their numbers. Other known prey items
include grouse, Northern Flying Squirrel,
ground squirrels, Porcupines, Beavers, mice,
voles, shrews and occasionally ungulates as prey
or carrion. Lynx have short tails,
they have a ruff under the neck,
which has black bars, is not very
visible, and resembles a bow tie.

Their body color varies from medium
brown, to goldish, to beige-white,
and is occasionally marked with dark
brown spots, especially on the limbs.
All species of lynx also have whiteish
fur on their chests, bellies and on
the insides of their legs.
Also, the lynx's coloring, fur height
as the lynx ranges to its colder
northern climates, the fur gets progressively
thicker for warmth, the color gets lighter
for camouflage and its padded paws enlarge and
become more padded for snowy environments.
Although the lynx is now listed as a federally
threatened species, winter snow track surveys
show there are good numbers of lynx in Montana.
"Montana supports the healthiest lynx population
in the lower 48 states.
Montana Canada Lynx ecology is subsequently different
than those populations further north with average
home ranges nearly twice the size of those found in the north.
