Thank you Phyllis, glad you enjoyed it!

Cheers guys! Got lucky that day, been to MP a lot before but never in the rainy season. The clouds and stormy light really added something, plus there were a lot less people about! A superb rainbow appeared as well at one point, image is further down my portfolio somewhere.

Spectacular shot James. Great angle of view. Very nice contrast and composition. Love the clouds.

What a view. Machu Picchu is on my "Bucket List" and this picture makes me want to get there even sooner.

Artist's Description

Arguably the most famous archaeological site in South America, the Inca city of Machu Picchu sits high on a ridge above the Urubamba River not far from Cusco. The steep peak behind the site is called Huayna Picchu. Probably built during the reign of the Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century, it was never found by the Spanish and remained unknown to the outside world until the arrival of the American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. Llamas were indispensible to the development of civilisation in the Andes. Domesticated several thousand years ago from a now extinct species, they were and still are widely used for transport, wool and meat. The animals at Machu Picchu have a far more comfortable existence! Photograph © James Brunker.
