One of my favorite artists, Winslow Homer, created many paintings of women standing on the beach or along the coast looking out to sea. Evidently the wives of the fisherman longing for their husbands return. I was inspired to use that thought as subject matter for this painting. To add a splash of unsuspected color, I decided to include the yellow Mackinaw...and that brought forth questions. Who's coat? Why does she have it if it is her husband's? Why did she bring it? Perhaps he left it behind the last time he went to sea...and never returned.
