The beautiful Madame Walker Theater on Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. Named after America's first self made female millionaire Madame C.J. Walker, who saw a need for beauty products and built a thriving business, in days when women couldn't do such things. As the last surviving iconic building on Indiana Avenue, the Madame Walker Theatre Center is a significant piece of our nation’s history and is listed on the register of National Historic Landmarks. The Walker building, once the headquarters and manufacturing plant of Madam CJ Walker Hair Care and Beauty Products, boasts much of its original 1927 architecture. Still in use today, the theater has seen many of the top performing acts of the times, like Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Patti LaBelle, just to name a few.
