The lion (Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad-chested body; short, rounded head; round ears; and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion's pride consists of a few adult males, related females, and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator; although some lions scavenge when opportunities occur and have been known to hunt humans, lions typically do not actively seek out and prey on humans (Wikipedia).

08-27-23 Up at around 1 AM in terrible pain in my left leg. Waited all night till around 5 AM when I told my husband that I could not walk. He took me to the Emergency room of our local hospital. And we waited. Around 11 AM I was taken to Ultrasound and then Radiology. Nothing showed up but after speaking to the doctor we both agreed that I probably strained a tendon. I was given pain meds and we got home around 2 PM - my dog was very happy to see us. Able to walk without a cane by Sunday. Getting old sucks, just so you know. 07-30-2023 Back in May - after Sport was put to sleep - we finally decided to go to the local shelter to see if we could find a new love. We noticed this guy that was just lying in his cage, so we decided to take a...

I can imagine the shock of hear you have that disease, the shock of hearing it makes you really wonder why and yes it would make one very angry. i hope that all is well with you now and that it is in remission. take care and have great week, and when you have minute do stop by and have look at my tigers. Cheers! Lucien
Barbara Keith replied:
Yes, I'm cancer free - for now. And I'm going to stop by and take a peek..

Barbara, Sorry, but the look of the cat close up in the drawing and the title seemed to fit. also it appears you did not like my critique of you drawing. I was not trying to offend, just trying to offer my observation and say it as I saw it . Have great day... cheers! Lucien
Barbara Keith replied:
You know, after I responded - I re-read what I'd written and realized that it might be taken just the way you did. I apologize that the written doesn't take well to "humor".. I didn't find anything wrong with what you said.. I just stated my position wrongly. This piece is part of my "Anger" series, which I did every one of them for the same reason - I was a tad ticked about developing cancer and this was the best way I could find to express it. All the pieces have a title related to "Anger"... And you have a great day too..

So I am imagining the madness was in the drawing of the lions mouth, wide open and the teeth and capturing the textures there and on the tongue? you have done a really great job drawing the expression and the close-up of the mouth. The fur on the nose has a really nice tactual quality to it. The eyes are good but seem to lack that same level of detail, the pupil looks a little off to me or is that the Iris, it seems to need some smoothness, not sure how else to describe it, but the line quality there is similar to that of the fur, I guess is what I am saying and needs to be different, make sense? Anyway, I'm still thinking overall a really well drawn close of the cat roaring.
Barbara Keith replied:
First, he's not roaring, he's snarling. And "madness" had nothing to do with the work.. but had everything to do with health matters that plagued me for 2 years - and this was my way of coping with it. And thank you..
