Description
Male saddle-billed stork (Ephippiorhyncus senegalensis). The saddle-billed stork, so-called because of the yellow saddle on its beak, is one of the tallest storks, reaching up to 145 centimetres in height. It is a wading bird that feeds mostly on fish, frogs and small mammals. It nests in the tops of trees or bushes near water and is found in most of sub-Saharan Africa. Unlike most birds, the adults do not call, but communicate by rattling their bills. Photographed in the Vumbura area of the Okavango Delta, Botswana.
