The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is a large dabbling duck, and one of the most common duck species found throughout the United States. Mallards may be found in ponds and parks, or any wet habitat. They measure about 23 inches in length and about 2.4 pounds in weight.
This male Mallard landing on the Hudson River on a winter day, was photographed in Verplanck, New York, on 3-10-2015. I used a Nikon D800 camera body and a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR2 lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 400.
