We were on top of one of those double deck red buses that would drive around Rome for endless hours until you got off. It was perfect as we did not need to know what we were seeing or where we were in the city. We just had to have sense enough to know when to hop off. We did. Paper maps were still de rigueur in June of 2006 as Apple did not offer iPhones until June of 2007. If I really wanted to know what something was I would drag out my paper. It was just much too easy to let the ever visually intriguing kaleidoscope of Rome pass before my eyes like a colorized silent movie.
