Thanks, Bob. It really was fantastic. :)

This really must have been something to see and hear! Awesome capture! V/F

Thanks, Jean and Anne-Elizabeth. :)

Kristin, This is magnificent. I will return to your site soon. You are on my watch list. Good wishes to you. F/V

Wow..Love this Kristin....Beautiful....!!!

Both, Allen, both...so sad. Not only do we lose these beautiful glaciers, but we also lose a lot of land mass. Overpopulation won't just be due to people having babies.

Love the image, but not the fabric. Does not absorb moisture well.

Very nice little towel, fits perfectly in our Japanese theme bathroom.

Extremely poor quality, complete rip off as picture disappeared after the first wash. The wash was a cool programme for delicates and the towel was washed on its own. I won't ever order from them again

Artist's Description

Ice calving, also known as glacier calving or iceberg calving, is a form of ice ablation or ice disruption. It is the sudden release and breaking away of a mass of ice from a glacier, iceberg, ice front, ice shelf, or crevasse. The ice that breaks away can be classified as an iceberg, but may also be a growler, bergy bit, or a crevasse wall breakaway. Calving of glaciers is often preceded by a loud cracking or booming sound before blocks of ice up to 200 feet high break loose and crash into the water. The entry of the ice into the water causes large, and often hazardous wakes. The wakes formed in locations like Johns Hopkins Glacier can be so large that boats cannot approach closer than two miles. These events have become major tourist attractions in locations such as Alaska. Many glaciers terminate at oceans or freshwater lakes which results naturally with the calving of large numbers of icebergs.

About Kristin Elmquist

Kristin Elmquist

I have been taking photographs since my Mom gave me my first camera for my 16th birthday. Sure wish we'd had digital way back then. I have no formal training but people tell me I have a good eye. I enjoy taking photos of just about anything, but prefer landscapes and nature photography. I also enjoy using the available filters in Paint Shop Pro. Even Ansel Adams fiddled with his photos by using exacto knives and chemicals. :) If you would like wording added to any of these images, or a color image in black and white, or a black and white image in color, please send me an email through this site, and I will be very happy to customize for you. Thanks for viewing my work.
