Description
The Marsh Wren (Cistothorus palustris), also called Long-Billed Marsh Wren, is a member of the wren family and is also a songbird. The males have light brown abdomen and flanks, white throat and breast, dark brown cap, white supercilium, and a thin but short curved bill. They are small but stocky birds measuring about 5 inches in length and about 0.39 ounces in weight. They are native to the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their preferred habitat is in marshes, as suggested by their name. They forage in vegetation mostly for insects, spiders, and snails.
This beautiful Marsh Wren foraging in a marsh was photographed at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, in West Alton, Missouri on 10-6-2019. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4 VR2 lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 2000. This 3,700 acre sanctuary located on the Mississippi River watershed is managed jointly by the Audubon Center at Riverlands and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:
