Close to 500,000 purple martins gather each year in Austin, TX to roost in the nearby trees of a mall parking lot. Peak numbers usually reach their highest in mid-to-late July, although good numbers still are present in early August before they take off on their migratory journey. This roost is an incredible nature event that is a must see for birders. If you love birds, especially purple martins, you have to make the trip to Austin to view this wonder of nature.

Awesome capture of a martin roost! I am a purple martin landlord and have witnessed a similar roost in Houston! It's hard to really capture in a photograph because you don't hear all the chatter, but this is a good representation of the chaos!
