Maurice G. Whittinghill (1909-1998), US geneticist. Whittinghill studied at the University of Michigan, obtaining his doctorate in 1937. He was a professor and researcher at the biology department of the University of North Carolina from 1942 to 1974. He carried out research at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Long Island, New York, USA. He also worked on the effects of radiation on genetic material in fruit flies, carrying out research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, USA. His publications included 'Human Genetics and Its Foundations' (1965). Photographed at the Genetics Society of America meeting of 27-29 August 1941.
