Description
This farm and the river bottom farmland surrounding it can be seen from the Murray Hill Scenic Overlook in Harrison County Conservation Project in the Loess Hills of northwest Iowa. Parking for this viewpoint, is just off County Road F20, and the steep hike up to the top of the ridge for view of the rolling hills and Missouri River valley is well worth the effort. A less experienced hiker such as I can stop for a breather while reading interpretive panels posted along the way.
The viewpoint is located at one end of an 8-mile hiking trail that connects the conservation overlook with the Gleason-Hubel Wildlife Area via the Loess Hills State Forest. Known as Brent's Trail and named after a longtime state forester, Brent Olson, it was opened in 2019; eventually the trail will connect the northern and southern ends of the State Forest.
