This photo of a man walking his donkey/mule pulling a homemade trailer was out collecting aluminum cans on the highway. This US highway replaced the older state highway that replaced the old trail the 49ers used as they traveled through north Texas headed to the California gold rush. I thought the image of this modern day prospector collecting aluminum cans was a fitting image of today's scrap metal collectors, today's gold rush. It just seemed so classic to me when I saw him. I've seen him a couple times over the past several years. This time I had my camera. I wanted the man, his donkey/mule & cart to stand out; so, I converted the photo to black & white leaving only the man, donkey/mule & cart in color. The feel I was going for was a black & white background to bring an air of days gone by, but a modern feel with the man, donkey/mule & cart in the color of modern times.
