About the Image...
Located in the high desert next to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Mono Lake is the depository for hundreds of square miles of water drainage and run off during the spring. The rock formations are natural forming from the chemical reaction of underwater springs rich in calcium mix with lakewater rich in carbonates. If you're ever there, take a close look around at the surrounding mountain ranges and look to the Western shoreline of the South Tufa State Reserve because that's where the fictional town of Lago was located for Clint Eastwood's film, High Plains Drifter. There are no signs of the movie set or the fictional town anymore, but the surrounding mountain ranges are certainly recognizable for Clint Eastwood fans.
