Description
Cherry blossoms in Japan are often referred to as clouds due to their tendency to bloom en masse. They are also a powerful symbol of the fleeting nature of life in Japanese culture, which is heavily influenced by Buddhist philosophy. This idea is captured by the term mono no aware, which translates to "the pathos of things" and represents a deep sensitivity to the impermanence of all things. This concept leads to a gentle sadness at the passing of things and a broader sense of sorrow about the transience of life itself.
My first oil painting in 50 years.
