Description
This pinto stallion was born in the spring of 2012 to the mare Gypsy. His pinto brother was born a year later. They became inseparable. I called them the Pinto Brothers. They were driven from their band in the spring of 2016 by their father the grullo band stallion. One night while sleeping on a hill above a pond I woke at 2:00am to the sound of many horses at the water.
A full moon lit the scene. I climbed out of my sleeping bag and sat on the hill watching the bands take turns drinking and splashing in the water. The herd moved west to feed and the pond grew quiet once more. A few minutes later the Pinto Brothers arrived. The full moon was reflected perfectly on the still water. The older Pinto Brother lower his head to drink and just happened to placed his muzzle directly in the reflection of the moon. Ripples radiated outward as he seemed to be drinking the moon. As I got back in my sleeping bag I whispered the name Moon Drinker.
Together Moon Drinker and his brother captured Buck's last two mares in late January, 2018. Then Moon Drinker drove his brother away and secured his first band.
