This photograph is of a common loon and her chick. It was taken in July of 2016 on the Tacoma Lakes.
The name of this photograph is a play on words. This is actually a photograph of the adult loon preening. There were actually two chicks on her back when she started. One jumped into the water immediately, but this chick decided that it was not going anywhere. The adult ended up pushing this chick into the water. I actually have another frame where all you see is the side of the chick falling into the water. I chuckled about how much love the adult was showing the chick when I took the photo, so the name actually has an entirely different meaning that what is portrayed.
