Arriving at daybreak, the air crisp at 41 degrees, a bit cooler than the 105 degree days I’d left behind in Texas, I scouted my preferred angle of vision and set up my tripod.
Clouds initially covered the high ridge line of Mount Mansfield, and I reluctantly began preparing myself for disappointment.
But patience won a smile as the cloud bank lifted above the mountain peaks with the twilight sunrise. Slips of fog and streaking colors exposed a shifting horizon.
What began as long minutes of potential disappointment became an hour and a half of my favorite sunrise of 2018 (smiles).
