Mount Vernon was the plantation house of George Washington, situated on the banks of the Potomac River in Virginia. It has been restored and maintained as a National Historic Landmark since 1960, and is open to the public every day of the year. The buildings and grounds cover 500 acres, and include historic colonial gardens, in which flowers, fruit and vegetables are grown.

Coneflower (Echinacea) is a North American genus in the Daisy family, and produces large and vibrant blooms. This photograph of a Coneflower bloom in good sunlight was taken in the historic colonial gardens at Mount Vernon National Historic Landmark on 7-18-2015. I used a Nikon D7000 camera body and a Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR1 lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/160 sec, f/7.1, ISO 320.
