I was thrilled to both see the lowest point in the US as well as the highest mountain in the continental US. I have lived in California my whole life and never saw either of these until I drove to and from Las Vegas. Mount Whitney is the jagged peak to the right of the tallest one in this photo. In front of it are hills that look like a giant dump truck dumped a load of dirt. The whole area is volcanic.
