Description
The beautiful mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) grows abundantly in April and May in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. Also known as spoonwood because Native Americans made spoons from it, calico bush, or ivy bush, it is native to the eastern United States. The entire plant is poisonous to a number of animals, including humans.

It was a new flower to me, too, Denise - growing all over the place when we visited the Great Smoky Mountains National Park last May and very showy. Thanks!
