Description
This alpine meadow is situated at about 5,000 feet elevation on the southern flank of Mt Rainier in Washington State. On a July 2016 photo shoot there were a few patches of snow to be seen, but the summer melt brought life to this bright meadow. Wildflowers were about, though not yet flourishing in a summer that came late to the National Park.
Mt Rainier is an active volcano that rises to 14,410 feet, the highest mountain in Washington State, and the most glaciated in the lower 48 states. It is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a chain of active volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest, that includes Mt Hood, Mt Saint Helens, Mt Baker, and other smaller volcanoes. (Wikipedia)
