Congratulations on your recent sale!

Nick Gustafson replied:

Thanks very much!

We had ash dust our cars days after the eruption and I lived in Gillette Wy at the time. Many sunsets that were colored by eruption for days. Then in 1987 they open the area back up to the public and over flights, so I set up my ultralight airplane at Morton Wa and flew to the top of the mt. and took a few pictures. Hope to do a 25th anniversary flight.

Nick Gustafson replied:

We had ash all the way down in San Francisco when I was a kid!

That is an excellent shot. Love the colors. I watched that explosion 31 years ago from Bremerton and visited Johnson Ridge Observatory a couple times since. Truly amazing the way Mother Nature heals herself. It's interesting that this almost looks like a photo-realistic painting in which the artist failed to complete the mountaintop. ;-)

Nick Gustafson replied:

Yeah it does look incomplete!

Many years ago, my uncle Thomas (Tom) Phillip Hufford asked me to come up with a word the opposite of predator. Amitor is that word. Ami: Fr. friend, Amigo: Sp. friend, Amity: Eng. harmony, Ami: Formosa, Taiwan. Giraffe: non predatory animal unless young attacked. Butterflies: live, love, laugh, hope. Survive, thrive and inspire others. Pen Sherwood offered to do this Amtor artwork for free sharing the copyright with me for my Amitor concept. Amitor Tom would be so proud. Diana Hays Kisselburg

About Nick Gustafson

Just trying to brighten up the world and trying to make people smile.... I like to paint wildlife and nature with acrylics and watercolors and draw with prisma color pencils, and with pen and ink. I also like to do nature and wildlife photography. My children are a major source of inspiration and encouragement for my artwork, I could not do it without them. I have had the privilege to have shown my art work in Oregon, Washington, California, and Arizona. I have also donated artwork to the Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, Triple "L" Horse Rescue, and to the Save the Frogs! organization. All images are the copy-write property of Nick Gustafson
