Description
David says he has no preconceived concept of what he's going to draw. He just lets his unconscious mind spill an image out onto the page. Which is why he's called his art series "Spilling Out of the Unconscious."
In his earlier works, David started by using a standard sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper and whatever pen he could find. He didn't realize because the pen ink wasn't acid-free and the paper wasn't acid-free and lignin-free that over time the drawing would start to yellow and fade. He learned his lesson and switched to acid-free pens and acid-free and lignin-free paper.
David starts by drawing at the top-left corner and works his way down to the right side of the page. Again, he has no concept of what the picture will turn out to be, at least not at the conscious level, so he's as much a spectator of his art as his audience is.
For his prints, he scans the original drawing into his computer and then adds a sepia tone and a little bit of color to enhance the drawing's depth.
So sit back and bathe your unconscious in the images bursting through the lines.
