Waves crash around Neptune, this ancient god of the sea. Birds and plants that are typical of the Pacific Ocean are used to depict his environment. He holds his traditional three pronged Trident, symbol of his ruling power.
Seagulls stand on a rock covered in seaweed, starfish and crabs. Kelp with long streamers is tangled in his three pronged trident. One smaller crab holds tight to his flowing, wet, gray, curly hair.
A large wave is headed to cover this strong man but Neptune gives it no thought because he loves the sea, the feel of water and, like the water on his chest, he likes the cool feeling of water on his being.
If you are a lover of the sea you may enjoy this painting because here the wave will always be crashing, the seagulls will still be standing on the rock and the starfish and crabs will remain. Neptune, King of the Sea may become very special to you as it did to the ancients.
