Mixed Media - Marbling Acrylic Done On Methyl Cellulose Gel Medium
Marbling is a technique which dates back to the 12th century where ink was dropped onto water and blown through a straw to create patterns on the surface.
The patterns are transferred onto paper and printed once. Later in Turkey,
in the 17th century, and Europe followed and created patterns on a more dense
size which allow more control of the medium. The skill was taught to apprenctices and took many years to master. Because of the nature of the
process which is very labor-intensive, the marbling process is practiced by those
who enjoy the spontaneity of the end product, and the intrigue and mystery of the
way the colors interact forming designs which are quite striking, and unpredictable. A "gift" to those with the patience to bring the work into being.
